Typical Day in Paradise

A typical weekend day at the beach for us:

Just Another Evening

Late evening at Mexico Beach, Florida.  Fall and Winter sunsets can be so crisp and interesting!

Monday 10-22-12

Random thoughts today about the last few days:

1.  I currently live in one of the most beautiful places on earth – Mexico Beach – and most of the people who live here don’t even take advantage of the beauty!

2.  Watching and hearing the stories of life change never gets old!  I love being part of a church that cares about people – City Church Tallahassee is for real!

3.  Michael Mears is one of the most passionate speakers I know.  His message about the gospel and our money was one of the best I have heard.  Proud he is my friend and office mate!

4.  People like Josh and Brandi Hignight are what make organizations succeed.  Josh and Brandi have a three-week old son – Benjamin.  They got up early Sunday and drove to Tallahassee so Josh could fulfill his duties as an usher at church.  Not because he had to but because he wanted to do it.  Love my friends!

5.  My daughter ran not one but two 5K races this weekend.  And she got 3rd place in her age group on Sunday!  A year ago she wasn’t even running and in December she’ll participate in a half marathon.  Proud Dad!

6.  Amazed at the low-level of civility in political discourse today.  In years past I would laugh at news clips from things happening in the British Parliament – we have become just like it in our lack of respect for each other – sad days.

7.  Working to help displaced seafood workers in the Apalachicola Bay area is one of the most intense things I’ve done.  People all over are hurting and just want someone to be an advocate for them.  It’s not going to be an easy solution but hopefully there will be a lasting one in the days ahead.

8.  Thanksgiving and Christmas are exciting times for us.  We try to ramp up our giving to those less fortunate than we are at this time of year.  We won’t have a big Thanksgiving dinner so we can give more to someone who doesn’t have one at all.  We’ll find a way to spend some money and some time with people at Christmas who otherwise wouldn’t have anything.  Kind of feel that’s what Jesus would want us to do.

Who know what the week will bring but I know I’ll be spending some evenings like this:

October Evenings

Here are a few pictures of how we’ve been spending our evenings since arriving in Mexico Beach, Florida!

More of Our Favorites

There are times and places that are special.  Special for different reasons.  Some of my favorite places and times are found when I get to experience things like these.  A sunset only lasts a few minutes each day.  The opportunity to experience creation like this is incredible!

These photographs were taken at sunset on the Gulf of Mexico at Mexico Beach, Florida by my wife, Cyndi.

A Great Weekend

We had a wonderful time at Mexico Beach, Florida for Memorial Day weekend!  The weather was gorgeous.  The water was just right.  And as always, the sunsets and photo opportunities didn’t disappoint!  Thankful for a place to stay as we travel to Northwest Florida and extra glad our kids (who aren’t really kids anymore) like to spend time with us!  Several days of kayaking.  Hours and hours of walking.  Picking up sea shells.  Talking to random strangers.  Having conversations that don’t always take place.  It was a good weekend!

Here are a few shots of our time away:

On our trip home, we lingered for a while in Apalachicola, Florida – got to see things like the sailboat above as it entered the Apalachicola River.  We  watched pelicans dive bomb for food and dolphins swimming under the bridge.  Lots of interesting sights – and not ones we get to see everyday – at least not in Central Florida!

Until next time!

Pride, Forgiveness, Grace

We’ve been trying to spend more time at Mexico Beach lately. Even though we are almost 4 1/2 hours away, it’s worth every minute of the nine hour round trip! As you can tell from some of my recent posts, we spend quite a bit of our time there early in the morning and late in the evening. This gives us ample time to be in awe of God’s creation! Here’s another recent photo of one of our evenings:

I think one of the reasons I like being in the middle of such awesome reminders is that I need reminded of grace. Sometimes I have a hard time with forgiveness. And my difficulty with forgiveness is nothing but pride on my part. And that’s why I need to be reminded of grace, and love, and mercy. And when I’m reminded of these things, my pride is reduced and I’m humbled by the thought of His love.
