So, it’s been more than a year since I last posted here – my bad!
God works in some really amazing ways – and if I truely believed Him, it wouldn’t seem all that amazing. I should really expect the extraordinary to be ordinary!
Cyndi and I have a passion to feed hungry and homeless people. Cyndi has been involved in a number of projects over the years through Citrus Harvest – a food recovery organization. What started out as runs to get donated meat and bread from grocery stores soon lead to participating and sponsoring various canned food drives!
What she is most proud of is the addition of Blessings in a Backpack to Citrus County Schools. What started as a dream and a vision has evolved into backpacks full of food going home each weekend with disadvantaged students in two elementary schools! In January a third will be added and there are plans for two additional schools in September 2011! The community has become involved in so many ways – from collecting specific items to volunteering to pack the food each week to raising tens of thousands of dollars for the expansion into other schools!
About a year ago we began volunteering to feed homeless/hungry people every Monday evening. What started as a way to introduce others to sharing the love of Jesus has turned into an event we long to serve in. We have been able to encourage dozens of people to work alongside us each week as we provide a hot meal to over 125 people each week. The opportunity to work with men, women and children has been as much a blessing to us as it has been to those we serve!
The ability to involve our children and their friends has been an added treat! Having our kids see us give of ourselves, our time, our money, our resources and our love is priceless.
The cool thing is that He may be opening up some opportunities to use this passion in a much bigger way in a much bigger city! More to come as the details evolve!
